ADAPTIVE TELEPHONE EQUIPMENT

LOAN PROGRAM

The Adaptive Telephone Equipment Loan Program provides telephone equipment to qualified individuals who have hearing or speech impairments or who suffer from neuromuscular damage or a disease that inhibits their ability to use a standard telephone.  Equipment includes such devices as amplified phones, a TTY phone, uniphone, dialogue voice carryover phone or Cap Tel captioning.  Income eligibility requirements must be met to qualify for this program.

PARI INDEPENDENT LIVING CENTER

PARI  runs the Gift of Hearing Program which provides reduced cost hearing aids.  They are located at 500 Prospect Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860 and can be reached by calling 725-1966.

RI COMMISSION ON THE DEAF AND

 HARD OF HEARING

The Rhode Island Commission of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides information and referrals, administers sign language interpreter referral service, and provides ADA consultation, outreach and training.  Their library has videos, books and articles available for borrowing.  They are located at One Capitol Hill, Providence, RI  02908 and can be reached by calling 222-1204 or TTY:  222-1205.

  STATE OF RHODE ISLAND I.D.s
The State of Rhode Island issues non-driver identification cards. 

Rhode Island ID requirements: You must be a resident of RI; you may not hold a valid license in RI or in any other state; you must provide an acceptable identity document; an acceptable signature document; proof of residency; a valid social security card or an acceptable denial letter (with an acceptable visa code).   The fee for a RI State ID is $16.50 and no personal checks are accepted for payment.  Please be advised that the Division of Motor Vehicles requires you to present your original, un-laminated Social Security card for all NEW ID card transactions.  For more information, contact the Department of Motor Vehicles at 462-4368 or www.dmv.ri.gov.
